Game Description
A Quest for Survival Begins – You are a gray wolf in the Northern Range of Yellowstone National Park. Now dispersed from your natal pack, you’re on your own – to hunt, explore, find a mate and form your own pack to raise up a new family. Can you and your little pack survive the trials of the wild?

Surviving in the wilderness is far from easy! Hone your hunting skills by practicing on animals such as elk, mule deer, and moose. Once you’ve grasped their differences and know your limits against your selection of prey, seek out another wolf to become your mate and form a pack together. Explore fields and forests across Yellowstone National Park while you establish a territory and choose a den. Raise your pups by feeding them and playing with them. Protect them from deadly predators who try to kill them.

Over time, your family will outgrow the need for a den and become nomadic, where you teach your pups how to catch their own prey. By next spring they will be yearlings, and test these new skills to help raise the next litter. Eventually, some will venture out on their own and disperse, just as you did all that time ago.

Explore realistic recreations of select locations within Yellowstone National Park. Set in the Northern Range (often referred to as “the Serengeti of North America”), where many animals roam meadows, sagebrush steppe grasslands, alpine forests, and high ridges.

But be wary – you are not the only wolf in the area. Rival packs make their home across the landscape and don’t take kindly to sight-seeing intruders. Other dangers roam the lands as well – grizzly bears, cougars, and coyotes among them who will vie with you for territory and food.

Game Features

  • Live the life of a wild wolf! Form your own pack and watch your adorable pups grow into adults and disperse, year after year, until your wolf dies. End your story on your deathbed, or select an heir to continue your legacy.
  • Dynamic day/night, weather and seasons immerse you into the wilderness.
  • Wolves communicate with each other using natural actions and vocalizations. Packmates and pups interact and play with each other. Dynamic (family-friendly) courtship interactions help find and choose a suitable mate.
  • A genetics system models inheritance of each wolf’s genes, including eye color, physical and personality attributes, and genetic coat color.
  • Elk roam the lands in realistic herds, along with moose, mule deer, beavers and other prey.
  • Animals behave and change to the seasons. Herds migrate through the year. Bucks and bulls spar in the autumn rut and shed their antlers. Cows and does give birth and raise their own young.
  • Rival wolf packs maintain and protect their own territories from intruders – like you!
  • Bears, cougars and coyotes will challenge you for their kills and defend their own.
  • Optional Ironwolf Mode: Live life on the edge, where each decision counts and your death can’t be taken back.
  • Over 100 Achievements and a variety of collectible objects hidden across the map, from shed antlers, skulls, to lost human items.
  • Engage in Co-op Multiplayer: Raise your pups together in a group for one game year, maintain territory together against rival packs, or hang out in a sandbox without any real objective.
  • Live a Wolf’s Life Together: Build a pack and raise pups year to year in a special 2-Player Mode, until one of you dies of old age.
  • Choose who joins your games by selecting if they’re public to all, private to friends, or only for select individuals or in-game pack groups.
  • And a lot more!

Included DLCs:

  • Yellowstone Wolf Coat Pack
  • Lost River
  • Building Character Pack
  • Hellroaring Mountain

Remember when a GOP lawmaker’s anger at a Democrat’s restroom joke backfired immediately?

1 février 2026 à 14:00

Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) used a House committee hearing on sanctuary states and immigration policy to berate Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) about a joke he told about restroom use in 2017. It didn’t go well for Gill.

Pritzker was summoned to the hearing alongside two other Democratic governors — Minnesota Gov. Walz and New York Gov. Hochul — to explain their states’ refusal to have their legal authorities aid federal agents with detainment and deportation efforts. Then, Gill tried to have his “viral moment,” WLS-TV reported.

“Governor, do you think biological men should be able to use women’s restrooms?” Gill asked.

Pritzker responded, “I’m not sure how this has to do with immigration.” Gill responded by saying that it was a “yes or no” question. Pritzker then said he didn’t understand, adding, “I thought we were here to do fact-finding.”

Gill then read Pritzker’s February 23, 2017, social media post that said, “As a protest against Trump‘s rescinding protections for trans kids, everyone should use the other gender’s bathroom today.”

Pritzker, at the time, said that he “was not being literal” when joking about everyone using the wrong bathroom for a day.

Was not being literal. But I think today and every day we should be standing up for all our kids. #ResistTrump

— JB Pritzker (@JBPritzker) February 23, 2017

At the hearing, Gill then asked Pritzker, “Have you ever used the women’s restroom?”

Pritzker said, “Not that I can recall.”

Gill responded, “So you wanted everybody else to do it, but you didn’t.”

As Pritzker again expressed confusion about the topic’s relation to the hearing, and as Gill repeated his questions, Pritzker then said that he doesn’t advocate for men to use women’s restrooms and said that the conversation should be focused on immigration, which was the designated topic of the hearing.

Gill asked, “Did you ever consider that women don’t want you in their bathrooms?”

Pritzker then asked Gill, “So you’re admitting that this is just a political circus? This has nothing to do with immigration and is really about you grandstanding.” He then pointed out that Gill and his Republican colleagues have voted in favor of cutting social service funding that will cause Gill’s constituents to die.

During the hearing, Pritzker said he isn’t afraid that administrative officials will try to arrest him. The White House’s border czar Tom Homan recently threatened to arrest California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) for interfering with possibly unconstitutional federal immigration raids.

“I will stand in the way of Tom Homan going after people who don’t deserve to be frightened in their communities, who don’t deserve to be threatened, terrorized. I would rather that he came and arrested me than do that to the people of my state,” Pritzker said.

After the hearing, Pritzker said, “This hearing was a demonstration of just how bad this Republican-controlled Congress really is, again, nothing accomplished, an entire day of just harping on something that, frankly, most of which was false. And would I say it’s a waste? I think this entire Republican-controlled Congress is a waste.”

Conservatives restart attacks on marriage while feds crack down on queer journalists

1 février 2026 à 14:00

Right-wingers renew their attacks on LGBTQ+ families & marriage

What happened: The creators of Project 2025 released a new set of policy guidance for the administration to target LGBTQ+ families for erasure, claiming that being raised by same-sex parents is bad for children. Meanwhile, a coalition of 47 right-wing organizations announced a new campaign to end marriage equality, arguing that children’s interests are “greater than” LGBTQ+ people’s rights, echoing “groomer” attacks on LGBTQ+ people.

Why it matters: Conservative Christians apparently believe that the political climate is right to overturn one of the biggest civil rights advances of this century.

Gay journalist Don Lemon arrested for reporting on a protest in a Christian church

It’s looking like a political arrest: A magistrate judge and an appeals court both denied the DOJ’s request for an arrest warrant, but federal agents arrested Lemon anyway. The White House’s social media accounts celebrated his arrest by posting, “When life gives you lemons…”

Why it matters: They’re arresting journalists for reporting on major events that are unfavorable to the administration.

Federal agents pepper-sprayed an award-winning queer journalist while she reported on Alex Pretti’s death

In Jana Shortal’s words: “They started to just aggressively say ‘Move back,’ but nobody knew what was happening. I’m moving back, walking backwards on the pavement in my boots and apparently [I] was not fast enough. And so, an agent probably twice my size pushed me pretty hard, and I said, ‘Don’t push me, I’m press.’”

Why it matters: This happened before Lemon was arrested and shows how the current administration, at every level, does not like the free press.

GOP lawmaker calls for the death penalty for doctors and parents who support trans kids

In his words: “I think we need a law in Tennessee that would allow for capital punishment for those who commit an assault on the sanctity of life,” said Tennessee state Rep. Monty Fritts (R).

Why it matters: All the states that are going to pass bans on gender-affirming care have already passed them, but Republicans feel the need to keep dialing up the rhetoric against trans kids and their families.

New York’s attorney general fired a transphobic lawyer for “flagrant and repeated disregard” for rules that protect people’s rights

Why was the lawyer fired? She claims it was because she spoke out against gender-affirming care, which she claims is homophobic. James said she was fired because she wasn’t following the rules of her job.

Why it matters: Democratic officials are, generally, holding the line on LGBTQ+ rights when they have the power to do so, even in all this chaos.

LGBTQ+ advocates marched in Tallahassee, Florida this past Wednesday in support of trans rights at the third annual “Let Us Live” rally. They targeted two sets of bills being heard in the current legislative session. One would expand the state’s ban on gender-affirming care, making even pharmacists liable for filling a doctor’s prescription. The other would ban LGBTQ+ awareness training for government workers and give workers the right to misgender trans people.

LuSEE-Night: See You on the Far Side of the Moon

1 février 2026 à 14:00

As a kid in the 1970s, I watched the Apollo moon missions on TV, drawn like a curious moth to the cathode-ray tube’s glow. The English band Pink Floyd blared through the speakers of my mom’s Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, beckoning us to the dark side of the moon.

The far side of the moon, the term most scientists prefer, is indeed dark (half the time), cold, and inhospitable. There’s regolith and a couple of Chinese landers—Chang’e 4 in January 2019 and Chang’e 6 in June 2024—and not much else. That could change in about a year, as Contributing Editor Ned Potter reports in “The Quest to Build a Telescope That Can Hear the Cosmic Dark Ages.” Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 2 with the LuSEE-Night radio telescope aboard will attempt to become the third successful mission to land there.

The moon’s far side is the perfect place for such a telescope. The same RF waves that carried images of Neil Armstrong setting foot on the lunar surface, Roger Waters’s voice, and hundreds of Ned Potter’s space and science segments for the U.S. broadcast networks CBS and ABC interfere with terrestrial radio telescopes. If your goal is to detect the extremely faint and heavily redshifted signals of neutral hydrogen from the cosmic Dark Ages, you just can’t do it from Earth. This epoch is so-called because we Earthlings have yet to sense anything from this time period, which started about 380,000 years after the big bang and lasted 200 million to 400 million years. The far side of the moon may be a terrible place to live, but it’s shielded from all the noise of Earth, making it the ideal spot to place a radio telescope.

As Potter emphasized to me recently, LuSEE-Night won’t listen for a signal from Dark Ages hydrogen directly. “Will the hydrogen from the Dark Ages send a signal? No,” says Potter. “But all that hydrogen out there may absorb a little bit of energy from the cosmic microwave background, interfering with that even more distant remnant of the big bang.”

The far side may not stay quiet for much longer. Several countries, including China, India, Japan, Russia, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, are making slow but steady progress toward establishing a lunar presence. As they do so, they’ll place more relay satellites into orbit around the moon to support exploratory activities as well as moon bases planned for the next decade and beyond. That means the window on a noise-free far side is closing. LuSEE-Night, a project 40 years in the making, might just get there in the nick of time.

Potter is tracking emerging protocols that could preserve the far side’s electromagnetic silence even as such efforts advance. Radio astronomers he’s talked to have shared ideas about how to prevent this emerging problem from turning into a crisis. “There are no bad guys in this story, at least not yet,” says Potter. “But there are a lot of well-meaning people who could complicate the picture a great deal if they don’t know that there’s a picture to complicate.”

It’s a busy time for moon missions. In addition to Blue Ghost Mission 2, the Chinese are sending Chang’e 7 to the moon’s south pole, while NASA’s Artemis II is scheduled to enter the first of three launch windows this month. Artemis II will be the first mission to put humans into lunar orbit since the last Apollo mission in 1972. And IEEE Spectrum readers will enjoy a front row seat, thanks to the enterprising reporting of a true legend in the business, our own Ned Potter.

This article appears in the February 2026 print issue as “See You on the Far Side of the Moon.”

iPhone Becomes a Bluetooth Keyboard And Mouse

Par : Lewin Day
1 février 2026 à 15:00

Sometimes you need to use a computer and you don’t have a spare keyboard and mouse on hand. [KoStard] figured an iPhone could serve as a passable replacement interface device. To that end, he built an adapter to let the phone act as a wireless keyboard and mouse on just about any modern machine.

To achieve this, [KoStard] grabbed an ESP32-S3 development board, and programmed it to act as a USB HID device to any machine attached over USB. It then listens out for Bluetooth LE communications from an iPhone equipped with the companion app. The app provides an on-screen keyboard on the iPhone that covers everything including special keys, symbols, and punctuation. You can also take advantage of the iPhone’s quality capacitive touchscreen, which emulates a nicely-responsive  trackpad, with two-finger taps used for right clicking and two-finger drags for scroll. Latency is nice and low courtesy of the direct Bluetooth LE connection.

It’s a nifty build that is particularly useful in oddball situations where you might want a keyboard and mouse. For example, [KoStard] notes it’s a great way to control a Smart TV without having to do ugly slow “typing” on an infrared remote. We’ve seen his work before, too—previously building an adapter to provide Bluetooth capability to any old USB keyboard. Video after the break.
