Former Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher, the brother of seven-times world champion Michael, is reportedly set to marry his boyfriend in May.

In July 2024, the 50-year-old came out as gay on Instagram, uploading a photo of himself and his partner Etienne Bousquet-Cassagne, 36, looking at a sunset. The pictured was captioned: “The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything.”

On Sunday (8 February), German outlet Bild reported that Schumacher and Bousquet-Cassagne are planning to tie the knot during a three-day event in Saint-Tropez this May. 

Schumacher was previously married to Cora-Caroline Brinkman, a former model. The pair married in 2001 and went on to have a son, David. The pair officially divorced in February 2015 after a period of separation and a bitter custody battle over David, who is also a racing driver.

After he came out, his ex-wife described his announcement as “a stab in the heart”, saying she felt “used” in the relationship.

Schumacher responded to her comments, sharing that “Cora congratulated us in September 2023 because she thought we had gotten married”. 

“As you can see from this message to Etienne personally. I think it’s a shame for Etienne and me that she spreads so many lies. We both just want to be left in peace,” he shared on Instagram. 

Schumacher and Etienne were rumoured to have been together for two years before revealing their relationship publicly, with actress and close friend Carmen Geiss writing under his coming out Instagram post: “After two years, you can finally show your love to the world. I have known Ralf for more than 25 years and he has always been a great joy to me.”

Schumacher drove for Jordan, Williams and Toyota. He started 180 races, winning six. He left Formula One in 2007.
